

Steve holds a PhD from the University of Reading, an MBA from the Harvard Business School, an MPA from Harvard's John F. He has also managed the development of several teaching and decision- making tools.

He brings to his research extensive experience consulting with companies on international and emerging market strategies across a variety of industries and geographic regions. Prior to joining NYU Stern, Steve was a Senior Research Associate and Lecturer at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.

He examines how cross-country differences and distances shape flows of goods and services, capital, information, and people, measures how they vary across countries and over time, and analyzes implications for business and public policy. Steve’s research focuses on globalization and its implications for business strategy and public policy. Steve is also the Director of the DHL Initiative on Globalization at NYU Stern’s Center for the Future of Management. Altman is a Senior Research Scholar at the NYU Stern School of Business and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in NYU Stern’s Department of Management and Organizations.
